As Fall approaches, many people may be thinking about the upcoming school year or the weather cooling down as the snow season is almost on the horizon again. However as the Mammoth Lakes community is getting ready for winter once again, the fall activities are just getting started as an incredible summer is coming to a close in Mammoth Lakes. A great month of events, fun, and good times are about to begin as we here in Mammoth Lakes are looking forward to some of the most exciting and enjoyable events of the year before the weather finally starts to turn.

Beginning on Labor Day weekend the Mammoth Lakes community will enjoy a fall program uniquely called “Outside on the Eastside,” which is a fun program that will run for two months until the end of October. Then Labor Day weekend begins the inaugural celebration to welcome the Fall season with the Mammoth Rock N Rye festival. This is a three-day festival filled with music, 2 beer tastings, and 30 different distilleries featuring their beer as well as 15 different craft brews to be made available for anyone of age wanting to try some of the best beer in town.

On a less casual and more adventurous note, there is also the Gran Fondo bike race on the following weekend for all of you athletes out there. This demanding bike race consists of 102 miles of riding with a total elevation climb of 6,643 feet beginning and ending at 8074 feet. For those of you like me who feel that 102 miles is a bit much, there is also a more manageable 42 mile course and 70 mile course available, depending on how adventurous you would like to be. If you aren’t into cycling, how does a run sound? The 12.4 miles Tioga Pass run is the following day!  Or really challenge yourself add a swim into the long weekend with the infamous Graniteman Challenge (swim / bike / run); a three day multi-sport event September 8-10th.

On a similar course of events, Thursday, September 14th kicks off the annual Kamikaze Bike Games; mountain bike races. Despite the name, this event is not just for the kamikaze bike riders out there, it is actually for riders of all levels. This weekend not only involves the crazy and exciting biking, but there will also be an expo going on in the village with wonderful music and events for children and families.

The community will then finish off September with 3 fun-filled days of our very own Mammoth Oktoberfest! September 22-24 brings fun and beer filled weekend with beer maidens, lederhosen, delicious beer, and of course more music in the village. If any of these events don’t sound like your cup of tea or you are looking to get more out of your time in the area, don’t forget about the hiking, fishing, and natural beauty of the area as the fall colors will be in full-swing and the area will be just as beautiful as ever. Enjoy your last few months of warm weather in the area before we transition into the new ski season which is already scheduled for Thursday November 9th!

Hope to see you all soon!
