Mammoth Mountain Opening Day is November 13, 2014!

The nights are getting colder, leaves are falling off the trees, and it’s almost time for everyone’s favorite day of the year…Mammoth Mountain Opening Day!! Mammoth Mountain will officially open for the 2014/2015 on Thursday, November 13 at 8:30 a.m. Haven’t experienced a Mammoth Mountain opening day yet? It’s something every skier should experience in their lifetimes. While snow conditions can sometimes be questionable (Mammoth is one of the earliest ski areas to open in North America, and sometimes there is only enough snow to open the Broadway run down to Main Lodge), the excitement in the air is palpable as people jockey for the first spot in line, to break through the banner that is held up in front of the first chairlift out of the gates! I’ve heard that some people even camp out in the parking lot overnight to ensure that they are first in line! If you’re like me, and prefer to watch the frenzy instead of participating in it, you can enjoy the free hot chocolate and coffee starting at 7:00 am.

The opening day excitement doesn’t end on Thursday morning, though. There will be a champagne toast on the Main Lodge Deck, overlooking the ski run, at 11:00 a.m., and live music starting at 11:15. And if you have kids, I’m sure Woolly will be making appearances throughout the opening day festivities! On Thursday night, Snowboarder Magazine will be premiering their new snowboard video “Foreword” at Wave Rave snowboard shop on Main Street at 9:00 p.m. Mammoth team athletes Jaeger Bailey and Garrett Warnick will be there mingling with fans. During the day, live music on the Main Lodge deck will continue from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. throughout the weekend!

And now, the question on everyone’s mind…Will there be snow????? According to the Weather Channel, a storm is supposed to come in this weekend and bring temperatures in the teens (brrrrrrr!) and drop up to a foot of snow on the mountain! Mammoth Mountain will be making snow to add to the natural stuff, so just keep your fingers crossed that the temperatures remain low!
