Convict LakeBetween the beautiful Summer the Eastern Sierra saw this year and the early snow, came gorgeous fall colors along the HWY 395 stretch. When the Aspen leaves start to change from crisp greens to brilliant yellows and oranges people from all over come to take it all in and get snap shots of the area changing seasons yet again. Convict Lake is one of the most serene places in the Eastern Sierra during the fall because of the thick Aspen Groves sitting majestically below Mount Morrison. Many fisherman enjoy camping at the Convict Lake campground adjacent to the lake during this time of year, while others who are less apt to camp can enjoy the cute cabins of Convict Lake Resort. Convict Lake in FallThe campground is surrounded by the fall colors with a small creek that runs through it and with almost a hundred sites to choose from you really can’t go wrong, especially during this time of year when your likely to run into less tourist than usual. The Convict Lake Resort sitting close to the lake has a ton of various sized cabins to choose from and a great restaurant and bar with delicious food and cute rustic atmosphere. There’s always small events and weddings going on during this time of year because of the beautiful weather and colors!

Convict Lake Hiking TrailThere’s a short hiking trail that surrounds the lake and takes you through the thick Aspen Grove and cute wooded walkway along the backside of the lake. This short hike is breathtaking and well worth the picture opportunities especially during the early mornings when the lake is smooth as glass. If you’re looking for a more adventurous hike there’s a trail the shoots off this one that can take you up toward Mount Morrison that over looks Convict Lake. Fall in the Eastern Sierra means quieter trails with less people, crisp weather, and colors changing, definitely well worth the stop if traveling through the area or planning to stay in one of our quant Eastern Sierra towns.
